We were pleased today to be visited by representatives of the Taylors of Harrogate, Yorkshire Tea Company, along with their partners from the Kenya Tea Development Agency. They have been working together, along with other organisations in Kenya, with the goal of improving energy efficiency.
Reducing the carbon footprint of tea factories can assist in reducing the effects of climate change. This is critical to the long term sustainability of the Kenyan tea industry.
Notably, Taylors, the Yorkshire Tea Company has a history of generously giving back to the communities that produce their teas. Several years ago, these same two partners visited Our Lady of Grace Children’s Home & School and supported the construction of a project for the collection of rainwater that allows the girls to more easily clean their clothes and school uniforms.
Once again, questions were asked regarding possible projects that they could consider. What immediately came to mind is the new Kinder Classroom project, an endeavor to enhance the learning environment of our preschool orphaned girls. The current classroom has a dirt floor, metal walls, no electricity and is overdue for replacement. We look forward to the opportunity to discuss this most worthwhile project with Taylors of Harrogate, Yorkshire Tea Company, the Imenti Tea Factory and the Kenya Tea Development Agency.
We would of course welcome assistance from other generous donors who are supportive of this worthy capital project.
